2024-2025 Nominees for Vestry and Diocesan Delegates

Senior Warden (1-year term)- Elizabeth Hukill

I have been a member of Trinity church since 1985. I was married here, my children were baptized and married here, and their children have been baptized here. Over the years I have participated as a Sunday school teacher, chalice bearer, lector, and alter guild teammate. I’ve also been a member of the vestry and participated in various committees and groups. My favorite parts of Trinity are too many to list but include the pageant, eating goldfish crackers with 3 year olds while we talked about our shoes (admittedly a stretch from the intended curriculum story), hearing my friends beautiful voices singing hymns, and communion. I look forward to continuing my service to our community.

Junior Warden (1-year term) Catherine Dean

My name is Catherine Dean, and I am nominated to serve as Junior Warden. I am Canadian and have lived in Delaware for 18 years, 17 of those years a member of the Trinity congregation/choir! I have recently retired from the board/executive committee of the Grand Opera House after 15+years and am excited to join the Trinity Episcopal Church Vestry. I’m mother of Sarah and Oliver, a Floral Designer, Trinity SJ Weekly Editor and Community Activist. I love to golf and always enjoy competing with Patty for bragging rights!

Vestry (3-year term) – Steve Dooley

Steve Dooley (son of Max Dooley) has been a member of Trinity Parish since 1988, when he and Sarah started attending Old Swedes in preparation for their wedding there on October 8, 1988. He has been on the Vestry several times in the past under Rev Louis Leone, Rev. Anne Bonnyman and Rev. Patty Downing. He served on the Search Committee that called Patty to be our rector.  He and Sarah normally attend Old Swede’s service. When their daughter Erin participated in the Christmas pageant, he was around to help with the little angles calling out to Mary from the Chapel windows. Steve is semi-retired from 35 years as a Boeing Engineer and is now a consultant with Boeing working part time mostly from home. He and Sarah live in Toughkenamon PA close to Kennett Square.

Vestry (3-year term) – Janet Gordon

I’ve been a member of Trinity Parish since moving to the city (from the wilds of North Wilmington) in 2012.  I love the diversity of the parish, the welcoming spirit of the parishioners, the fantastic choir, and the beauty of the church.  I’ve often said that the shallow parts of my spirit are uplifted by Tiffany windows and handmade needlepoint kneelers.

I have been married for almost 50 years to Peter, have three sons, three daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.  The oldest is off to college next week, and the youngest off to pre-school!  By profession I am a (retired) pediatric nurse practitioner and enjoy volunteer activities involving children.  I’ve been a CASA, representing children in foster care, for over 10 years.  I enjoy a lot of travel, cooking, and gardening.

Vestry (3-year term)- Ray Stiles

My name is Ray Stiles and I am a member of the 10:00 congregation. My husband Tom Hopper and I have been members of Trinity since 2013. We came because we had heard of all the wonderful things Trinity was involved with and stayed because we fell in love with all that Trinity believes in. We were married here at a Sunday service on October 4, 2020, because we wanted to be amongst family and friends.    I have been involved in the church in a variety of ways. I am often a Crucifer at the 10:00 service, Chalice bearer and also serve on the Altar guild. Growing up there was no certain religion my family was involved with. In the early 90’s I began going to church at St. John’s in Salem, NJ and I was baptized there in 1993. Trinity is an important part of our lives, and I value the community which it serves. I am excited about the idea of being on the Vestry and working to make sure that ours. Church continues to grow and meet the needs of its congregation and community. I would be honored to be a member of the Vestry.

Convention Delegate – Kathryn Jakabcin

I have been a member of Trinity since about the summer of 2010. I’ve enjoyed being a part of Trinity and participating in several parish activities and committees (in no particular order): Altar Guild, liturgical participant (lector, chalicist, master of ceremonies, e.g.), Vestry member, Finance Committee member, The Arts at Trinity committee member. My vocation has always been to listen carefully for direction, and the strength and perseverance to head in that direction (some call it discernment). I am a former social worker and attorney. I find my work helpful, gratifying, challenging and fun. I have served on the vestries and as diocesan delegate in previous Episcopal parishes of which I was a member and at Trinity, so I am familiar with the roles. I am not sure why God is calling me to accept such a position, but as I always have tried to listen carefully to that “still small voice,” I think that’s where I should be headed.”

Convention Delegate – Leslie McQuirter

Leslie McQuirter is a member of Trinity Parish since 2020, along with her husband Doug and two children. She is part of our AV team, livestreaming services on Sunday mornings.
