2023-2024 Nominees for Vestry and Diocesan Delegates

Senior Warden – Elizabeth Hukill

I have been a member of Trinity church since 1985. I was married here, my children were baptized and married here, and their children have been baptized here. Over the years I have participated as a Sunday school teacher, chalice bearer, lector, and alter guild teammate. I’ve also been a member of the vestry and participated in various committees and groups. My favorite parts of Trinity are too many to list but include the pageant, eating goldfish crackers with 3 year olds while we talked about our shoes (admittedly a stretch from the intended curriculum story), hearing my friends beautiful voices singing hymns, and communion. I look forward to continuing my service to our community.

Junior Warden – Catherine Dean

I am Canadian and have lived in Delaware for 18 years, 17 of those years a member of the Trinity congregation/choir! I have recently retired from the board/executive committee of the Grand Opera House after 15+years and am excited to join the Trinity Episcopal Church Vestry. I’m mother of Sarah and Oliver, a Floral Designer, Trinity SJ Weekly Editor and Community Activist. I love to golf and always enjoy competing with Patty for bragging rights!

Vestry (3-yr term)- Brenda Demanczyk

I began attending Old Swedes in September 1998, was baptized Easter, 2000, and married my husband, Joe, in November 2006, at Trinity. Joe and I have been active members at Old Swedes as Altar Guild, Usher, and Reader. My daughter, Emilia, has been in the pageant from Little Sheep, to Shepherd, Gabriele, and finally Mary. I have worked at DuPont for over 20 years as a Data Manager in various positions where I also volunteer promoting Diversity in STEM to underrepresented middle and high schoolers. I have been a Delaware native for over 50 years attending High School, College, and working in the city of Wilmington. I recently stepped down from being the Appoquinimink Music Boosters Treasurer and Website Administrator for my daughter’s high school marching band and music programs. I enjoy doing genealogy research, word puzzles, and traveling.

Vestry (3-yr term)- Bob Emeritz

My wife Marty and I have attended Trinity Parish since moving to Wilmington from Washington, D.C. in November 2019. We usually attend the 8:00 service, where I have served as a lector. I am an attorney and served as an Executive Editor and as head of a team of legal analysts at Bloomberg Law prior to my retirement. At our previous church, St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish in Washington, I served as a lay eucharistic minister and as a member and Clerk of the Vestry.

Vestry (3-yr term) – James Maxwell

My wife, Wendy, and I have been members of Trinity Parish for about 10 years. I am active as an usher and reader. I am a life-long Episcopalian and before coming to Trinity, I grew up in and attended Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Claymont, Delaware, where I served on the vestry and in many other roles. Wendy and I have four children between us. I am an attorney and currently work in Wilmington at Delaware Family Court.

Convention Delegate – Kathryn Jakabcin

I have been a member of Trinity since about the summer of 2010. I’ve enjoyed being a part of Trinity and participating in several parish activities and committees (in no particular order): Altar Guild, liturgical participant (lector, chalicist, master of ceremonies, e.g.), Vestry member, Finance Committee member, The Arts at Trinity committee member. My vocation has always been to listen carefully for direction, and the strength and perseverance to head in that direction (some call it discernment). I am a former social worker and attorney. I find my work helpful, gratifying, challenging and fun. I have served on the vestries and as diocesan delegate in previous Episcopal parishes of which I was a member and at Trinity, so I am familiar with the roles. I am not sure why God is calling me to accept such a position, but as I always have tried to listen carefully to that “still small voice,” I think that’s where I should be headed.”

Convention Delegate – Kathy VanDevender

Kathy has served on the Stewardship Committee and the vestry and represented Trinity Parish as a delegate to the Delaware Diocesan Convention. She is active in the Women’s Spirituality Group and contributes to worship through greeting, ushering, and reading. She has served on the board of the Old Swedes Foundation.
