Introductions to This Sunday’s Lessons

Genesis 21.8-21

God has promised a son to Sarah and Abraham in their old age. As a sign that Isaac is a member of God’s people, he has been circumcised. But when Sarah was unable to conceive, Abraham had another son, Ishmael, born of Hagar, a slave.

Romans 6.1b-11

Paul has insisted that God gives grace to the Christian purely as a matter of love and without expectation of being paid back. The more we deviate from God’s ways the more he gives us grace. But this might leave Paul open to a charge of encouraging licentiousness.

Matthew 10.24-39

Jesus has commissioned the twelve disciples to continue his mission in the world. He continues to instruct them, telling them that following him will, at times, be difficult.

Parish Picnic at the Blue Rocks!

Get ready for a joyful summer evening as we gather for a fun-filled night of baseball, fellowship, and food at the Blue Rocks! This isn’t just a game; it’s a celebration of who we are as the Episcopal Church in Delaware: one church, one family, together in the stands. Whether you’re a lifelong baseball fan or just here for the laughter, connection, and all-you-can-eat picnic, this is a night you won’t want to miss!

This is also the perfect opportunity to bring your church community together. Invite your parish—families, youth groups, choir members, neighbors, and friends. Let’s fill the stands with Episcopal spirit! With the diocesan choir at the Blue Rocks!

We’re assembling a diocesan-wide choir to sing the National Anthem at our Parish Picnic at the Blue Rocks on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The game begins at 6:05 p.m., and our choir will open the evening from the field, representing the full voice of the Episcopal Church in Delaware.

Everyone is welcome to join, whether you’re a seasoned chorister or simply

love to sing, we’d be glad to have you join us for this joyful diocesan moment.

Don’t Miss the Festival of Remembrance and Renewal at Old Swedes!

Join Us for America 250: A Festival of Remembrance and Renewal! Celebrate America’s rich history, culture, and spirit at America 250, a special community event at the Old Swedes Amphitheater on Saturday, June 27, from 12 PM to 5 PM!

Enjoy an afternoon of inspiring performances featuring the Delaware 1st Regiment Fife & Drum Band, Opera Delaware, a powerful tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by John Moore, dance performances, and vintage jazz. This family-friendly event offers an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s journey while celebrating the values that continue to bring us together.

Guests can also enjoy a variety of delicious offerings from local food trucks while spending time with family, friends, and neighbors in a festive outdoor atmosphere. Whether you’re coming for the music, the history, the food, or the community spirit, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. All are welcome!

Interest in a New Parish Prayer Group

Praying is doing something. When Christians gather to pray together, sharing, healing, spiritual growth, and deepening of community occur.

If you are interested in joining or helping form a prayer group that meets regularly to pray for the needs and concerns of our parish, parishioners, and the wider community, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Marty Emeritz by email at marty.emeritz@gmail.com or by call or text at 202-207-6796.

Epiphany House Volunteer Opportunity

Trinity Parish is seeking a volunteer to help provide transportation for residents of Epiphany House (722 N. Union Street) to ShopRite for grocery shopping on the second Tuesday of September and October. Coverage has been found for July and August, but September and October still need volunteers.

This is a simple but meaningful way to support members of our community. The volunteer would pick up a resident at 6:30 p.m., drive them to ShopRite, and return them to Epiphany House when they are finished shopping. There is no need to accompany the resident into the store.

To volunteer or learn more, please contact Beth Copson at bcopson@comcast.net or 302-584-6855.
